Airborne Wind Energy - R&D status & outstanding challenges

Abstract

Airborne wind energy has several decisive advantages compared to conventional wind energy or other renewables. It does, however, also face a number of technical and non-technical challenges. In this one-hour lecture Roland Schmehl will present the fundamental working principles of energy harvesting with tethered flying devices, a classification of harvesting concepts, several representative implemented concepts, current development challenges, research challenges and future concepts.
